Helen and Herb Haydock

Feaured Collector

The name “Haydock” has been synonymous with breweriana since that term was coined by author and collector Will Anderson in 1969. Helen Haydock, along with her late husband Herb, were the dynamic duo of breweriana (and notably mentioned in Anderson’s 1969 book).

Beginning in the 1950s, Wisconsinites Herb and Helen became a highly influential and prodigious pair of collectors, known throughout the country for their vast knowledge of quality breweriana and expertise in acquiring it.

In 1972, the Haydock’s, along with John Murray of Chicago and Dick and Katie Bucht of Milwaukee, formed a collectors organization called the National Association Breweriana Advertising. Today, NABA still flourishes, with more than 1500 members nationwide.

By the 1980s, the Haydock’s had amassed what was generally accepted to be the country’s – and perhaps the world’s – largest assemblage of brewery artifacts. That collection was eventually housed in a museum and subsequently sold. Beginning in 1987, the Haydock’s began building a second collection that over the next 30 years grew to be remarkable for both its quality and quantity.

The Cone Top Brewery Museum was proud to acquire that Haydock Collection in 2024.
